Whether you're talking to customers, clients, or internal stakeholders, understanding what people really need is the key to building the right thing. This talk will give you a handful of conversational tools and a framework for approaching those conversations so you can get insightful, actionable information that helps you move forward.
Most developers share a common fear: the fear of spending hours, weeks, months, or years building something... only to have built the wrong thing.
Interviewing customers, clients, or internal stakeholders can help you avoid that—before you build, during development, and even after the fact. This workshop will help you apply the interview tools and tactics from Deploy Empathy to help you understand what people really need so you can make sure you're building the right thing. (And, in case what you've built doesn't hit the mark, how you can figure out what they need instead so you can change directions.) You don't need to be an extrovert to be able to interview, and this workshop will give everyone—even the shyest among us—the confidence to talk to their users.
The workshop will focus on practical application and will be tailored to the needs of each participant, so you'll get something out of this whether you've never interviewed anyone before or have done them dozens of times. The interview tactics you'll learn in this workshop can be used beyond understanding users, from sales to your personal life, and you'll walk out of this workshop with a new perspective on how to have better conversations with people in general.
Participants will receive a free signed copy of Deploy Empathy.
